The Runaways: Chapter One (Part Seven, AKA Last Part)

Here is the last part of the chapter!

While she was in her panic, she glanced out the window and saw something odd.  What was that?  She thought.  Before she could get a better look at it, it was gone.  She could only see a tip of what looked like a bat’s wing, and the ends of very dark brown hair as it slipped away.  What in the world was that?

“Penny…  Look at me…”  said Daddy in a tired voice. 

She looked at him, tears slowly falling down her face.  He sounded a lot worse than he did earlier.  “Ye- yes, Daddy?”  She stammered.  She wasn’t going to lie to herself now.  She knew she was scared.  She was almost holding her breath, and was shaking all over.

“I… I want you to know… that I’m proud of you.  I really am…  And I love you… very, very much.”  He said slowly, and smiled slightly.

She held his hand, and started to cry.  “I- I know.  I love you too, Daddy.”  She said as clearly as she could, but her voice was trembling.

He smiled a bit bigger, and closed his eyes.  His breathing slowed to a stop.

                Grace’s eyes widened in terror.  “D-Daddy?  Daddy?!”  She begged, and held his hand tighter, but he didn’t reply.  Oh my…  No…  No this can’t be happening!  She thought.  But she knew very well that he was gone.  The doctors and the nurse lowered their heads in sadness.  Grace’s mom cried hard and looked like she was about to fall to her knees.   Grace closed her eyes tight and held his hand even tighter.  She pressed her head on his hand, as if she thought that she could squeeze life back into him.  She breathed in deep, and cried out as loud as she could.


There it is!  That's the end of the chapter (can't believe it took me SEVEN posts to do it.)  BTW, I am planning on posting the first three chapters of the book, but after that I'll only give you snip bits randomly.  Hope you guys liked it!
