The Runaways: Chapter One (Part Six)

Lot's of posts today, huh?  Here's part six.

“Grace!”  Her mom yelled, running after her but stopping at the door, staring with shock at Daddy.  “Oh…. Oh no……”  She said, and started to cry as softly as she could.  She looked down at Grace.  “Grace…”  She started to say, laying her hand on her shoulder, but Grace pulled away and ran to Daddy, sitting on the floor at the side of his bed.
“Daddy?  Daddy it’s me, Penny.”  Grace said as softly as she could, trying her best not to cry.  It was hard enough on her seeing him like this, he looked so delicate, as if yelling too loud would break him.  He slowly turned his head to look at her, his dull eyes showing a bit of life seeing Grace’s face, and he smiled as best he could.
“Penny… every… everything is going to be… okay.  Can… Can you make me a promise?”  He said weakly.
Anger started in Grace’s eyes.  “Don’t talk like that!  I am not going to let you die, Daddy!”  She almost yelled.
“But, Penny, I’m not going to be here forever-”  He started, but Grace stopped him.
“No buts!  I know that, Daddy.  But you promised you would be okay, and I am going to hold you to it whether you like it or not!”  She yelled.  Tears welled in her eyes, but she quickly wiped them away.  She looked around her.  She saw so many tools, so many things that could’ve saved Daddy, but she didn’t know how to use even one of them.  What am I going to do?!  She thought.  Tears welled up in her eyes as she began to panic.  She couldn’t lose him.  Not now.  Not when life was getting rough, now when thing were getting complicated.
The kids at school were starting to become afraid of her, because she was stronger than most of them.  She didn’t know why she was, all she knew was that they wouldn’t talk to her anymore.  She was also fast, which didn’t help them to like her anymore.  Her mom and Daddy would fight late at night, too.  They’d send her to her room for the night, but she’d stay up and listen to them fight.  She didn’t know why they were fighting, or why the world seemed to be turning againts her.  She just wanted to be with Daddy, without worrying about the world.  She wanted to see the wolves with him again, just one more time.  And above all, she didn’t want him to die now.  There were too many promises on the line, too much going on for him to die now.

One more part after this and that will be the end of chapter one!
