The Runaways: Chapter One (Part Seven, AKA Last Part)

Here is the last part of the chapter!

While she was in her panic, she glanced out the window and saw something odd.  What was that?  She thought.  Before she could get a better look at it, it was gone.  She could only see a tip of what looked like a bat’s wing, and the ends of very dark brown hair as it slipped away.  What in the world was that?
“Penny…  Look at me…”  said Daddy in a tired voice.
She looked at him, tears slowly falling down her face.  He sounded a lot worse than he did earlier.  “Ye- yes, Daddy?”  She stammered.  She wasn’t going to lie to herself now.  She knew she was scared.  She was almost holding her breath, and was shaking all over.
“I… I want you to know… that I’m proud of you.  I really am…  And I love you… very, very much.”  He said slowly, and smiled slightly.
She held his hand, and started to cry.  “I- I know.  I love you too, Daddy.”  She said as clearly as she could, but her voice was trembling.
He smiled a bit bigger, and closed his eyes.  His breathing slowed to a stop.
Grace’s eyes widened in terror.  “D-Daddy?  Daddy?!”  She begged, and held his hand tighter, but he didn’t reply.  Oh my…  No…  No this can’t be happening!  She thought.  But she knew very well that he was gone.  The doctors and the nurse lowered their heads in sadness.  Grace’s mom cried hard and looked like she was about to fall to her knees.   Grace closed her eyes tight and held his hand even tighter.  She pressed her head on his hand, as if she thought that she could squeeze life back into him.  She breathed in deep, and cried out as loud as she could.

There it is!  That's the end of the chapter (can't believe it took me SEVEN posts to do it.)  BTW, I am planning on posting the first three chapters of the book, but after that I'll only give you snip bits randomly.  Hope you guys liked it!

The Runaways: Chapter One (Part Six)

Lot's of posts today, huh?  Here's part six.

“Grace!”  Her mom yelled, running after her but stopping at the door, staring with shock at Daddy.  “Oh…. Oh no……”  She said, and started to cry as softly as she could.  She looked down at Grace.  “Grace…”  She started to say, laying her hand on her shoulder, but Grace pulled away and ran to Daddy, sitting on the floor at the side of his bed.
“Daddy?  Daddy it’s me, Penny.”  Grace said as softly as she could, trying her best not to cry.  It was hard enough on her seeing him like this, he looked so delicate, as if yelling too loud would break him.  He slowly turned his head to look at her, his dull eyes showing a bit of life seeing Grace’s face, and he smiled as best he could.
“Penny… every… everything is going to be… okay.  Can… Can you make me a promise?”  He said weakly.
Anger started in Grace’s eyes.  “Don’t talk like that!  I am not going to let you die, Daddy!”  She almost yelled.
“But, Penny, I’m not going to be here forever-”  He started, but Grace stopped him.
“No buts!  I know that, Daddy.  But you promised you would be okay, and I am going to hold you to it whether you like it or not!”  She yelled.  Tears welled in her eyes, but she quickly wiped them away.  She looked around her.  She saw so many tools, so many things that could’ve saved Daddy, but she didn’t know how to use even one of them.  What am I going to do?!  She thought.  Tears welled up in her eyes as she began to panic.  She couldn’t lose him.  Not now.  Not when life was getting rough, now when thing were getting complicated.
The kids at school were starting to become afraid of her, because she was stronger than most of them.  She didn’t know why she was, all she knew was that they wouldn’t talk to her anymore.  She was also fast, which didn’t help them to like her anymore.  Her mom and Daddy would fight late at night, too.  They’d send her to her room for the night, but she’d stay up and listen to them fight.  She didn’t know why they were fighting, or why the world seemed to be turning againts her.  She just wanted to be with Daddy, without worrying about the world.  She wanted to see the wolves with him again, just one more time.  And above all, she didn’t want him to die now.  There were too many promises on the line, too much going on for him to die now.

One more part after this and that will be the end of chapter one!

The Runaways: Chapter One (Part Five)

Tis part five.

No…. Grace thought. “No… No, he can’t die!”  She yelled at the doctor and stood up from her chair.
“Grace…” Her mom started, but was stopped by an angry-sad glare.
“No, you don’t get it! He can’t die! He promised things would be okay! He promised!!”  She yelled only louder at both her mom and the doctor, both looking guilty and depressed.  She ran through the big door and looked around her.  Which room is he in?!  She thought over and over, as though if she thought it enough the answer would come out of nowhere.
“Grace!” Her mom yelled and ran after her.  When she caught up with Grace she grabbed her shoulder.  “Grace! There is nothing we can do, your dad is…”  She began, but she started crying and wiped her tears away.
Grace pulled away from her and faced her.  “No! You’re wrong!  Daddy will not die!  He promised things would be okay, and Daddy never, ever breaks his promises!!  The only reason he’s not okay right now is because those lazy doctors won’t save him when they could’ve!  If they won’t save him, I will!!!”  She nearly screamed.
Her mom just stared at her, tears streaming down her face.
Grace looked behind her.  Now where is he?!  She thought, then she spotted a room numbered 3.  That has to be it!  She thought and ran to the door, and quickly opened it.
There he was, Daddy. He was breathing hard, and by the looks of one of the screens, his heart beat was slowing down.  His eyes look those of a dead man, cold and lifeless, but none the less, it was Daddy.  A nurse and two doctors were standing by him.  The nurse had long, blond hair, but it was easy to tell her natural hair color was brown.  One of the doctors was a woman, with short brown hair, and the other a man, with messy red hair.  The room was a mess, tools and other fancy machines were everywhere.   Did they…. Did they really try all that they could?  She thought, but quickly stopped herself.  No, they couldn’t have.  When Daddy makes a promise he keeps it, no matter what.  I am not going to let him break this one!  She thought, trying to convince herself to not be afraid.

Tis end of part five.  There shall be more soon.

The Runaways: Chapter One (Part Four)

Lots of parts, eh?  Here's more.

Suddenly thousands of memories flashed before Grace’s eyes.  Playing with Daddy, playing with her friends, visiting the wolves with Daddy, watching mom and Daddy fight, everything.  No… Please, no… She thought.  Then the memories suddenly stopped, and she heard a strange noise.  With her eyes still shut tight, she tried to listen closer.  It sounded like a woman crying, no, not just any woman.  She knew that sound better than anyone else.  It was her mom, crying.
Grace opened up her eyes and she saw that she was no longer in the black nothingness, but she was in a hospital.  She also saw that she was no longer a little girl, but now she looked about 10 years old.  The room she was in was dull, only white and gray were the building’s colors.  Taking a closer look she was in a waiting room, sitting on one of the uncomfortable chairs.  She looked beside her. There she was, her mom, crying so hard she could fill the room with her tears.  Her long pale blond hair covered her face, but Grace could still see her tears running down her chin, and onto her lap.  No… Please not again…. She thought.  She looked in front of her.  There was a big door, that lead to the emergency  rooms.  Then it hit her like someone told her a bad dream was in fact real, the memory of watching Daddy die.
She remembered watching him, sitting on the couch, acting like everything was fine, her sitting by him, and suddenly he fell over, choking, coughing, trying to hold back the tears in his eyes from pain. “It’s okay, Penny,” is what he said “I’m going to be okay.  Don’t cry like that, Penny.  Everything is going to be okay.”
At first she believed him, until they put him in the emergency room and didn’t let her or her mom in.  And now, she was sure he was gone.  Gone.  It hit her so hard she could barely breathe.
No… This can’t be happening.  Please no!  She thought over and over, hoping that if she thought it enough everything would turn out okay, and that Daddy would come through those doors on his own two feet, smiling, saying “I told you I’d be okay.”  But no, she knew that would never happen.  People don’t turn out to be okay from something like that.
“Mom… Don’t cry like that.  Daddy is going to be okay…” She said slowly.  She didn’t believe a word she was saying, but at the very least she could try to comfort her own mom.  Slowly her mom turned and looked at her, her hazel eyes filled with tears.  Grace knew she was trying to hold them back, but unluckily for both of them, she wasn’t doing that great of a job at it. “I.. I know… It’s just…. After all this time fighting with your father, I wished at the very least… I could’ve said I was sorry before… before this happened… And now…” Before she could finish she bursts into tears again.
Grace sighed and looked at the door.  It looked so dark and haunting, not letting anyone go through it.  She nearly jumped when the doors began to open.  Daddy? Is… Is Daddy okay? She hoped, but no, instead of Daddy coming as she hoped, it was a doctor.  A man with brown hair, but was nearly bald, with unfriendly glasses, and a messy white doctor’s coat.  “I’m sorry,” said the old doctor, with a bit of sorrow in his eyes “but he’s not going to make it.”

WELL, this is a long part.  More is on the way!

The Runaways: Chapter One (Part Three)

Here's part three.

They were half way through the forest when Grace suddenly stopped.  Something is wrong.  She thought.  A chill went down her spine, and she began to tremble.  There is something watching us, and it’s not natural.
“What’s wrong, Penny?”  Daddy asked, sounding a bit confused.
She looked at him, but he didn’t seem worried at all.  His face shows no fear, and there was no fear in his voice!  Which means- She thought and quickly looked behind her.  She felt her heart skip a beat.  A wolf was standing by a tree, it’s fur ink black with stunning blue eyes.  No… She thought, staring at the unnatural wolf.  “No… Please, go away…” She whispered, as if she feared her voice would make the creature angry, but instead it closed it’s eyes and sighed.
“I’m sorry,” said the wolf, in english, it’s voice sounding like a little girl. “But you need to get up.”
Suddenly everything got blurry. The trees, the sky, the grass, even Daddy began to fade away. “No… No please!  Wait!”  She began running to Daddy, who was smiling gently.  “Please, Daddy, stay! Don’t leave me!”  She yelled, tears streaming from her eyes.
A tear rolled down his cheek, trying his best to smile.  “I’m sorry, I wish I could stay.”
Suddenly everything faded to black, and everything disappeared but Grace.  She stood there, motionless.  Daddy’s words repeated in her head over and over, until she fell to her hands and knees, crying.  She couldn’t even feel the ground, being able to stand on some unknown surface.  She closed her eyes tight and screamed with all the energy she had.

Yes, there is more to the chapter, and yes, I will post more soon.  (Please just ignore the weird font changes.)

The Runaways: Chapter One (Part Two)

Alright, here's part two.

She woke up from her day dreaming and stopped.  When he stopped, he crouched down and hid in the grass and signaled Grace to do the same.  He whispered, “Don’t get too close to them, wolves don’t like to have humans nearby.”  Grace nodded her head.  She looked around her.  They were no longer in the small meadow by their house, as they had ran into the woods just behind the meadow. Seeing how it was late spring, the tree’s leaves and the tall grass were a deep, rich green.  Here and there, there were small patches of wild flowers.  Looking up, the sky was a perfect light blue, and a few fluffy clouds slowly rolled by.  Looking in front of her, she saw that she and Daddy were just a few steps away from a clearing of trees where a small cave stood.  She knew this place.  Once a year, a wolf pack that lived in these woods came here, for the alpha female to give birth to her new pups.  They would stay here for a couple weeks and, sure enough, they were here.  With a signal from Daddy, they slowly crawled closer to the clearing for a better look.
There, in the clearing, Grace could see the entire wolf pack.  Her green eyes widened with joy and excitement.  There are the new pups!  She thought, seeing three young pups playing together. Laying down by the cave entrance was Misty.  Daddy had told her many times that she was the alpha female, but Grace gave her the name Misty because of her gray fur.  Misty was staring at her and Daddy, making sure they knew they were not allowed to come any closer, and soon Grace got the message. Standing by Misty was Captain, the alpha male, according to Daddy.  His fur was a dull brown, but he was big, making him look powerful.
“Where are the others?”  Grace whispered.  She remembered that there were three more wolves in the pack, but they weren’t there.  “They are most likely sleeping or hunting.”  Daddy whispered.
Before she could reply, she began to yawn.  He smiled.  “I think we better go home.  We would not want you to fall asleep in the woods.”
“But…” Grace began, but she was stopped by another one of her yawns.
“Don’t worry, we’ll come back tomorrow.”  He said.
“Alright…” She sighed, and the two of them got up and began walking back home, hand in hand, smiling.

Again, this is all that I could fit into this post.  And again, I will post more of this soon.  (BTW, sorry that the letters aren't all the same size and font.  I do not know why it is doing this.)

The Runaways: Chapter One (Part One)

Hello everyone!  I am sorry I haven't posted for quite awhile (life has been busy).
Anyways, I thought I ought to post my book again, sense I've made some changes and have added onto the chapter.  Here it is!

Chapter 1:  Her Name Was Grace

“Penny? Penny, wake up!” Little 5 year old Grace opened up her eyes.  Looking around her, she saw that she was lying in the grass, her hair a tangled mess.  She soon realized that she was in her back yard, the grass a bright green and the flowers bursting with color, and Daddy standing by her.
“Penny if you don’t get up now I’m leaving without you.”  He said in his joking voice.
“No, Daddy, no! I wanna come!”  She jumped to her feet and hugged his leg, seeing how she was not tall enough to hug him around his chest.
He laughed a little “Alright, alright.  Common, or we might miss them.  Want me to carry you?” He said, holding out his arms a little.
After she was done hugging him, she shook her head.  “No. I wanna run with you!”
He smiled.  “Okay then.”  And the two of them held hands and jumped over the fence (although, again, Grace was too short to in fact jump over a fence, so Daddy had to help her climb over it instead). Energy and joy rushed through her body.  Her red-gold hair danced, her legs screamed “Faster! Faster!” To her, there was nothing better on this earth then running with Daddy.
Daddy.  There was no one on this earth like Daddy.  When she was with her friends, and their dads came to pick them up, they didn’t act at all like Daddy.  Neither did their moms.  Even her own mom didn’t act like Daddy.  Daddy was special.  She remembered many times when Daddy told her his name, but she would always say “But I like the name Daddy, it fits you!”  But he would always reply saying the same thing “Okay then, but you are going to have to let me call you Penny, because it fits you.”  “Why, Daddy?”  She’d always reply “Because you’re my lucky penny.”  She loved it when he said that.
“Okay, we can stop here, Penny.”

That's all I can fit into this post.  I make another post with more of the chapter.  Hope you like it so far!
